At the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2019 in San Francisco, Rovio Entertainment (ROVIO) and Resolution Games revealed details of their new augmented reality (AR) game called “Angry Birds AR: Isle of Pigs”, now available on the App Store for iPhone 6s and later, all models of iPad Pro, fifth generation iPad and sixth generation iPad, and the new iPad Air and iPad mini 2019 after a pre-order period of about a month. Thanks to Apple’s ARKit technology, “Angry Birds AR: Isle of Pigs” allows players to enter the world of Angry Birds, because characters and game elements are placed in the real environment in which they are located.
As you can see in the video presentation of the game below, you can start “Angry Birds AR: Isle of Pigs” on your compatible iOS device, activate the camera and see on the screen what the real lens sees with overlapping digital elements of the world of Angry Birds in 3D, and then you can ‘interact with augmented reality to launch angry birds in front of you to try to destroy the houses of green pigs. The ‘sling’ from which the angry birds are thrown is the device that holds the player in his hand, free to move in various directions, at 360 degrees, to direct the launch and find weak points and hidden objects.

“The game and the characters of Angry Birds will come to life in your world like never before, with incredible realism,” said Rovio.
Players of Angry Birds AR: Isle of Pigs are called upon to help Red, Chuck, Bomb and the Blues save stolen eggs. Thanks to augmented reality you can physically move between the structures superimposed on the objects of your environment to find weak points and ideal angles for the most precise launches, but also to find hidden surprises to challenge the green pigs, get more points and unlock content. You can even increase or reduce the playing space to suit your environment and personalize your gaming experience.
The game “Angry Birds AR: Isle of Pigs” is initially launched with 40 game levels, with more coming, so fans of the Angry Birds game series can have a unique view in different environments of Piggy Island. Of course, the classic Angry Birds characters are present, to help defeat their green nemesis.
Kati Levoranta, CEO of Rovio Entertainment, commented: “We are delighted to bring to life the beloved physics-based gameplay of Angry Birds through augmented reality. It’s a particularly good time to bring our bird friends to the mobile AR for the first time, as this year marks the tenth anniversary of the release of the first Angry Birds game. “
“This game evokes the core of what makes AR the gameplay really AR. With its eye-catching characters, classic Angry Birds gameplay and ability to move around structures, it uses the unique elements of Apple’s ARKit and shows what AR gameplay is capable of, which is quite amazing when you see it come to life,” said Tommy Palm, CEO of Resolution Games.
Angry Birds AR: Isle of Pigs is available on the App Store at a global level as a free download.
